Maya tools

Polything: I used the difference tool to make holes in the sphere then made it yellow, phong, and shined three lights on it.

Hammer: I used extrude to extend the hammer face and the claw and to create the depression at the top of the hammer.

Ice cream: I used difference to make the bowl, scoop, and used scale to make the ice cream lumpy.

Bouncing balls: I made three spheres. I gave the smallest one a golf texture, the medium one a tennis ball texture, and I used difference to make 3 holes in the bowling ball and made it phong. I translated the balls up, set a keyframe and then translated them down and set another keyframe, then repeated the process to make them bounce.

Cup: For this project I made a curve shaped like half of a wine glass and used the revolve tool to make it a 3d glass. I used a glass texture and turned the transparency up to make it clear.

Saltshaker. First I made a circle curve then scaled the control vertices down. I duplicated this shape 4 times then made a circle curve and put it at the top. For the cap I made a sphere and squashed some of the faces down, and deleted some of the faces at the bottom. I used the difference tool to make the holes at the top of the cap. For the salt, I duplicated the salt shaker, scaled it smaller, and put it inside the salt shaker.

Semester 1 video reflection

This semester I learned many things about editing. I learned how to make music videos, how to add voice-overs, the six shot sequence, and many other things. I learned how to shoot good shots and put them together in a way that flows and tells a story. I think the most important things I learned this year were the six shot sequence, filming, when to transition clips, and how to tell a story. I personally did not like the backpack journalism project. My favorite project was making music videos. I will apply pretty much everything I learned in this class to future use.

Lego video

With this project I had to film somebody using Legos and add voiceovers that went with the story. Some aspects about this project I enjoyed was editing the footage and selecting the best clips to use. One thing I found challenging with this project was filming without a tripod. It is hard to keep the camera still and it makes your arms very tired after filming for ten minutes straight or more. I feel like that kind of puts pressure on the person building the Legos to build them as fast as they can to be more convenient for the person filming. And just in general, it was a bit uncomfortable being filmed while building the Legos. Maybe just for me because I am not particularly good at this activity. I personally find this project very tedious, despite how short it is. Overall, though, I am happy with how my video turned out, and from how much I have learned from this project.

Fifteen (shortened)

I had to shorten my original three minute music video to ninety seconds. This was difficult for me because since this is a very slow song I had to cut parts out and edit different parts together so that it could tell more of a story within ninety seconds. I also didn't have room for a lot of the original clips I used so I had to get rid of them. This also made editing very challenging because those clips helped give more flow to the video. I used an exstensive use of fading effects to make the video appear as if different scenes are happening in different days and times but it still did not have the same flow as my original video did. Also, I had to shorten many clips, which makes it hard to distinguish them and process them before they move to the next clip. Overall, I thought my video ended up to be very rushed and a little awkward for the story telling aspect. I am fairy satisfied, though, with how I edited the song to make it suitable for a minute and thirty second video.
